Park Lovers' Ball: Blame It All On My Roots

The Post Oak Hotel – February 10, 2024

Nearly 700 West University neighbors and friends, adorned in their best black ties and boots, attended the highly anticipated 32ndannual West University Park Lovers’ Ball: Blame It All On My Roots for a recordbreaking evening of fundraising and fun in support of area parks and greenspaces. Event co-chairs Sarah & Travis Covington and Jordan & Andrew Jewett greeted guests alongside a Dolly Parton look-alike skirted in champagne. This close-knit and highly sought after community came together to raise over $780,000 to fund future park development in the West University Area.

Rev. Katie Montgomery Mears, Senior Pastor of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, provided a touching invocation and the event was emceed by the enchanting Ilona Carson, previously of ABC 13 and a West University Place resident. This year, Park Lovers’ Ball honored longtime Friends supporter, Frost Bank.

Well known former DJ and auctioneer, Johnny Bravo, captivated the crowd during the live auction which featured an Argentinian Dove Hunt, Cabo getaway, art by popular West U resident, Jen Hughes and a custom-built playhouse designed by Southern Green Builders. The event would not have been possible without the amazing support of Auction Chairs: Amanda Commons, Catherine Hamilton and Elise Madray as well as the incredible contributions of Underwriting Chairs: Disney Harris, Lexi Marek and Liz Scofield.

Texas Unlimited Band kept guests on the dance floor until well after midnight while stilt walkers dressed in disco-ball mirrored suits joined the crowd (you say dance floor above)r for some elevated fun.

Sarah & Travis Covington and Jordan & Andrew Jewett along with Friends Executive Director, Donna LaMond, and Friends Board Chair, Sami Morrison, would like to thank all who attended and helped make Park Lovers’ Ball 2024 an unforgettable fundraising event for the community.
