West University Place, TX – July 1, 2026 – Friends of West University Parks is pleased to announce the appointment of our new chair, Kelly Hill, effective immediately. Hill was promoted in her position to the Friends Board on June 8th at the city council meeting after her dedicated service to the Friends Board since 2020. She will be replacing Sami Morrison who has positively and effortlessly served as our Chair since 2018. Sami will remain on the Board as the Past Chair.
Hill has been a vital asset to our Board over the years as she was a Co-Chair for Park Lovers’ Ball in 2022 and Co-Chaired Fathers & Flashlights last year and will do so again this year.
Hill and her husband, Blake, have lived in West University since 2010. They have enjoyed raising their three boys, Colin (17), Ethan (16) and Sebastian (11) near Wier and Whitt Johnson Parks where they have loved walking and biking for many years. Additionally, Hill says, “Summers and birthdays were spent at Colonial Park, where the boys learned to swim, while Judson Park and Huffington Park became favorite places to run, play, and grow up. It’s been meaningful to watch our community continue investing in these spaces over our 16 years in West U.”
Hill was raised between Southern California and East Texas. She earned a Finance degree from Texas A&M University and made Houston home soon after graduation. She is currently the Head of Finance US at MB Energy Trading, supporting their distillates trading, ammonia marketing and global risk teams. The Friends of West University Parks Fund is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising funds for the renovation, expansion, development and improvement of parks and green spaces in the neighborhood parks of the City of West University Place. The board is appointed by City Council and raises money through foundation grants, citizens’ bequests, memorials, special events and various other programs and events including partnerships with local businesses.
