West University Place, TX – April 29, 2024 – The Friends of West University Parks Fund is honored to announce the most recent addition to their Board of Directors, Katy Turner.
Turner was appointed to the Friends Board on March 18th at the city council meeting after her dedicated service to the 2023 annual Fathers & Flashlights Fundrasier. She will be reprising this role as co-chair of the same fundraiser to be held on November 2-3, 2024.
Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, Katy met her husband, Chris, during their senior year at the University of Oklahoma. Together, they have three children, Georgia (11), Everett (10), and Hayes (7), all of whom attend Annunciation Orthodox School here in Houston. They have resided in West University for 10 years now and have enjoyed raising their children in such a special community. As a family, they have spent the majority of their time at Whitt Johnson Park enjoying the Gaga Ball pit as well as the “Ninja Course” at Colonial Park.
Active in all arenas of her community and children’s lives, Turner is also a consistent volunteer at her kids’ school as well as their family church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Her husband, Chris, is an account manager at McKesson.
As a family, they love to be outdoors…particularly in the mountains of Colorado where they often spend their summers hiking and fishing. The Turner’s spend a considerable amount of time at their family ranch in Caldwell, Texas, where outdoor activities also abound.
When Katy was asked why she volunteers so much of her time to support Friends of West U Parks, she said, “When I think about raising my kids in West U, I can’t help but think about the parks and the impact they have made on our family. They are a part of the magic of this community and we can’t imagine a better organization to support than one that touches so many of our neighbors and friends!”
Many thanks to Katy Turner for her loyal service to the Friends of West U Parks!
