West University Place – May 16, 2022– The City of West University Place generously hosted the 2022 Star Citizens Awards and Friends Appreciation Luncheon on May 11, 2022. The awards recipients were the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Fathers & Flashlights Co-Chairs Michelle and Doug Huth. The three events raised $221,000 cumulatively, including the Camp at Home event in 2020. Awards recipients also included the 2022 Park Lovers’ Ball Co-Chairs Kimberly and Dimitri Ang and Kelly and Blake Hill. The annual gala netted $236,000 for West U parks.

Mayor Pro Tem John Montgomery presented the awards to the honored recipients. Mayor Susan Sample, Councilpersons John Barnes, Melanie Bell, Shannon Carroll and Acting City Manager Marie Kalka also attended the awards luncheon at Escalante’s in Meyerland Plaza. Susan White, Parks and Recreation Director, Donna LaMond, Executive Director of Friends, Sami Morrison, Friends Chair and members of the Friends Board were also in attendance.

Proceeds raised from these events due to the efforts of these Star Citizens are managed by the Friends of West University Parks Fund and are dedicated to funding park improvements throughout the city of West University Place. The most recent projects include the Colonial Park Challenge Course, Huffington Park and the Judson Park improvements beginning this month. Friends of West University Parks Fund are grateful for the effort put forth by these community leaders as the improvements of the city’s pristine parks and greenspaces would not be possible without their dedication and commitment.
